The journey so far...

THE JOURNEY ITSELF

Its all well and good going to far flung places to take awe-inspiring photos, but sometimes the best part of going away is coming back home again. This aerial snap of London, as my flight back to Heathrow was held in a 'stack', gave me that warm, comforting feeling that only the anticipation of seeing friends and family, and tasting home-cooked food can bring.

MAGIC IN THE MAKING

A film set can be a truly breathtaking place. As Norma Desmond famously sang
"I'm coming out of make-up
the lights already burning
not long until the cameras will start turning.
And the early morning madness
there's magic in the making
Yes, everything's as if we never said goodbye"
(Sunset Boulevard). Unfortunately a closed set often has a 'no phones' rule, so its rare to catch a behind the scenes snap.

A VIBRANT CITY

One of my favourite 'Westernised' cities in the world is Vancouver. I've never met someone who's visited Vancouver who said they didn't feel at home there. Aside from the incredibly friendly locals, the amazing, vibrant nightlife and the diverse cultural backgrounds, you'll find Vancouver is a very 'natural' city. To the West is the Straight of Georgia, leading to Vancouver Island - miles and miles of sprawling nature reserve, and eventually to the Pacific Coast. To the North, dozens of national parks with hundreds of features to explore, including mountains, hot springs, and some great skiing!

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

As you've no doubt guessed, skiing is a favourite pastime of mine, and between doing numerous ski seasons actually working in resorts and numerous skiing holidays, I've had the honour and privilege of seeing some of the most awe-inspiring sights.

IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS...

One of the main reasons I fell in love with the mountains is the feeling you get when sitting high up, looking around, and seeing nothing but clouds and snow capped peaks. Its a very special feeling; one which makes you feel invincible and yet totally exposed, enormous and yet smaller than you ever thought possible. Its good to be reminded that you're a small part of a much bigger whole!

USING TECHNOLOGY TO BRING YOU BACK TO EARTH

I've recently started expanding my shooting repertoire into video as well as stills, and with that comes a whole new set of skills to learn. Using drones, gimbals and stabilisers as well as a good quality smartphone camera helps minimise the amount of kit you need to carry, and encourages you to try creative new ways to capture the moment. Each second of footage is a memory re-lived for years to come, each minute of footage, a mile marker on the road to a personal achievement.

GALLERY

Below is a selection of some of my favourite photos from my travels. I'm proud to be able to say that I do not use filters and always try to use the lightest editing possible to retain the original 'feel' of the scene. If you would like to purchase prints of any of these original photographs please contact me to discuss formats and pricing.
